Auxiliary/Volunteers
There is a special need at McAlester Regional Health Center that only a special kind of person can fill.
Hospital Volunteers are especially important to the function of the hospital. Volunteers provide an immeasurable service delivering flowers, patient mail and staffing the MRHC Gift Shop.
Volunteers also assist in the hospital workroom – copying, shredding, printing and staffing the patient information desk. Some volunteers donate time by knitting and crocheting baby caps or making tummy support pillows. Here are some areas that are available for volunteers:
Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels is a community-based lunch program to help meet the needs of residents in McAlester and Krebs. Recipients may receive Meals on Wheels through a physician or social worker referral. Income is not a criteria but they must be over 55 years of age and unable to prepare meals for themselves. Currently MRHC provides 53 meals per day, Monday through Friday.
The food is prepared and packaged at MRHC and community volunteer drivers deliver the meals. It takes approximately 40 to 60 minutes to deliver a route. Often the only people the recipients see throughout the day are the drivers. They are cheered by a friendly face, kind word and a handshake.
Drivers are needed to maintain this wonderful service. All routes are within McAlester and Krebs with no more than 8 stops. Routes take about one hour. Your help is needed as a driver. Please consider sharing at least one hour of your time every five weeks. For more information, contact the MRHC Food Services Department at 918-421-8091.

Jr. Volunteers (14 and up)
Teenagers are a valuable resource for the Junior Volunteer program at MRHC. They bring enthusiasm and vitality as well as their computer skills and fresh ideas. Volunteering at MRHC gives you a way to change people’s lives, including your own.
You Get to Pick
When it comes to volunteering, it’s not like school; instead of having choices made for you, you get to pick. You can choose what really interests you and what’s most deserving of your time.
You might know someone who has a medical problem or disability. You might be inspired to help but don’t know what you can do. There are many opportunities at MRHC.
Teens who volunteer at MRHC, say they get more than they give. The truth is, the patients you visit get way more out of spending time with you than you can imagine.
What’s Right for You?
Some Jr. Volunteers may want direct patient contact, but others who might not, can help with clerical support in the different departments; filing, collating, shredding, stamping, or copying. Later on, if they want to try something else, they can tell the Manager of Volunteers. We encourage open communication, we want your feedback, and we can work together to expand your opportunities.
No matter where you volunteer you will make new friends with patients and staff. The main thing is you’re making a difference. Every volunteer, no matter what their job, is part of the big picture, accomplishing our mission, vision and values.
What Fits Your Schedule?
Take a look at your schedule and figure out when you have open time. Teens that volunteer during the school year: after school, evenings and on weekends, 3pm to 5pm is a popular time slot. Others like to serve on the weekend for 2-3 hours.
What’s in it for Me?
Expand your mind
- Learn new skills.
- Work as a team.
- Learn new things about yourself: what you enjoy; what you’re good at; get ideas for your career.
Feel good
- Know you have the power to make a difference in someone’s life.
Take responsibility
- The people you volunteer for depend on you. When you meet that responsibility, it can change the way you look at yourself.
- Get perspective on your own life: take a break from peer pressure or parent pressure; volunteering lets you focus on others and see that you are doing something meaningful.
Get away from being bored
- Have a place to go, have fun and be busy doing something worthwhile.
Making good impressions should not be the main reason to volunteer, because if you are volunteering to please others or to look good, you won’t enjoy it. But volunteering shows others (and yourself) that you have made a commitment and are reliable.
Volunteering:
- Looks good on employment or college applications which were created with company app entwickeln lassen
- Shows you’re interested in making the world a better place and willing to give of your time and energy to do it.
